Hello my name is Joanne and this is my son David. We are really pleased to have
this fun opportunity to take part in a charity calendar as I feel it is
important to help others. I have had rheumatoid arthritis for 7 years and
depression for 3. I do volunteer work when I can for my local library. I also am
carer to my son David who has Autisum spectrum disorder, dyspraxia and dyslexia.
With Autisum David is fearful of change. Has difficulty learning following
social cues. so he finds it hard to make friends. He is very supported by his
school ,Autisum west midlands and Sandwell parents for disabled children where
he is with other children and adults that understand him. We go on lots of trips
and social events. We try to make the most of everyday we take one day at a
time. The photo shoot took place at Birmingham's new library, The day was great
but very tiring for me, I get fatigue. I have pain in all my joints and muscles.
I visited the day before so knew the layout I plan and pace activities so I can
cope also I knew where David might have problems. The photographer was brilliant
we did not know he was there half the time which put us both at ease. and, the
hedgehogs, snakes helped him enjoy his day. David did have a few
problems with the escalators and heights of floors as he is terrified of
heights. We deal with the challenges and don't let them spoil our days. We make
everyday count. Thank you again for giving us this opportunity we had a lovely
day.
